Doing a fix up our houses has lots of ramifications. It's great for future for resale, it's important
for the mood as clutter and dated furniture/appliances has a depressing effect and it's a creative outlet for design and one's individual identity.
Here's a tip to help improve your home before you sell it. It doesn't have to cost a lot of money but can have a very nice aesthetical effect. Being conscious of things like the appearance of your entry way, adding a little bit of nice wood molding or some mirrors etc can make a big difference:

The beds should all be made, and as wrinkle-free as a 5-star hotel. The entire space should be free of all clutter and overly-personal items, to allow the largest appearance, and to permit the prospective buyers to imagine themselves and their things in the space.
Even the closets of the bedrooms should be tidy and organized, with as little extra stuff in them as possible.
Any extra furniture should be removed from the bedrooms to give them a larger appearance.
